Microsoft Says Sacked Workers Can Keep Cash [UPDATED]

Microsoft has decided to change its mind about asking workers who got a bigger severance package than they deserved to pay back that amount. The affected workers can now keep the cash. Also of note, workers who were underpaid well get their pay packets topped up. The latter to me is in some ways more serious.

So, did they cave because of the bad press this issue received? Or are they being good corporate citizens? Please leave a comment and let us know your thoughts.

UPDATE: A reader pointed me towards this MSNBC story. Note this part: “we had payments misaligned with people’s names.” (Brummel said she didn’t know whether an Excel spreadsheet was at the root of the problem.)
