Concerned About The Epic FaceTime Bug? Here’s How To Protect Yourself
Earlier today I reported on an absolutely colossal bug where someone can use FaceTime to listen in on another FaceTime user without their knowledge. The question is, how can you protect yourself until Apple can fix this? The only means of protection is to disable FaceTime entirely. Here’s how you can do that. I’ll start with iOS:
- Open the Settings app.
- Scroll down to FaceTime.
- Click on the toggle next to “FaceTime” So that it no longer shows as being green.
Now here’s how to do that on the Mac:
- Open up the FaceTime app.
- Click on “FaceTime” in the menu bar.
- Select “Turn FaceTime Off.”
By doing both on all your iOS and macOS devices, this should stop anyone from exploiting the bug. Though that should no longer be possible as Apple has temporarily turned off Group FaceTime until a software fix can be pushed out “later this week.” Whatever that means. But my recommendation would be to disable FaceTime regardless.
