HEX, award-winning fashion accessory brand, today announced a range of bags featuring the art of renowned LA Based street artist PUSH. Featuring his unmistakable abstract designs in vivid colors the range captures his precise yet fluid style in three dimensions.

PUSH built his reputation on the streets of LA as part of the MSK/AWR and later Seventh Letter crews. As he made the transition from street to gallery and PUSH retained the respect gained on the street while making waves in the art world. Desjardins Employee Leaks Customer Data…. Lots Of Customer Data

Posted in Commentary with tags on June 20, 2019 by itnerd

Sometimes it’s not people from the outside that you have to worry about when it comes to protecting your data. Sometimes you have to worry about your own employees. A case in point is Desjardins who today admitted that this happened:

A Laval police investigation, which Desjardins has been closely involved with, has revealed that the personal information of 2.9 million members (2.7 million personal members and 173,000 business members) was disclosed to individuals outside Desjardins without authorization.

The investigation quickly traced the leak to a single source: an ill-intentioned employee who acted illegally and betrayed the trust of their employer. That person was fired.

The company says that it has not been the target of a cyberattack, and that it has not seen cases of fraud with the the people who have been affected by this Passwords for business and personal accounts have not been compromised. Nor have security questions and PINs have not been impacted. Those who have been impacted the breach are being offered a 12-month credit monitoring plan paid for by Desjardins and they are monitoring the affected accounts.

This should serve as a warning to all companies who handle personal data as it’s pretty clear that bad things can happen if a bad actor inside your company decides to go rogue. And you can expect there to be some serious fallout for Desjardins over this incident.

Apple Issues Recall For Mid 2015 Retina MacBook Pros Over Fire Risk…. Owners Need To Take Action ASAP

Posted in Commentary with tags on June 20, 2019 by itnerd

Earlier today, Apple issued a recall for owners of the 15″ Retina MacBook Pro units sold roughly between September 2015 and February 2017 (aka the Mid 2015 Retina MacBook Pro) because of a risk of fire due to a defect in the battery. Now I’ve checked mine and I am not affected by this, but you may not be so lucky. Thus you need to visit this website and enter your serial number to see if your Mid 2015 Retina MacBook Pro is affected. If your MacBook Pro is affected, stop using it immediately and get the battery replaced as per the instructions on that page.

As for why this is happening, Apple isn’t saying. But my guess is that it has something to do with this incident that made the rounds recently:

Carrot Rewards Goes Bankrupt Due To Lack Of Funding

Posted in Commentary with tags on June 20, 2019 by itnerd

Coming seemingly out of nowhere is the shut down and apparent bankruptcy of Canadian reward app Carrot Rewards. A notice on their website along with these tweets were posted today:

The app allowed users to earn rewards through completing daily step challenges and had backing for a time from several provincial governments. Clearly they could not find additional funding which is unfortunate. They will be missed.

TELUS Announces ANOTHER “No Overage” Plan…. $145 for 50GB

Posted in Commentary with tags on June 20, 2019 by itnerd

It now seems that TELUS is upping the stakes in the data wars that Canadian telco carriers are participating in. Hot off the heels of this announcement from TELUS comes this tweak to what they put on the table. They are now offering 50GB of data for $145. I have no clue who on Earth would need that much data. But if you do, TELUS can hook you up. Here’s the highlights that you need to know:

  • Like the other TELUS plans, this one is throttled at a speed of 512 kbps once you hit your monthly data cap which is twice what Rogers or Bell offers.
  • Like the other TELUS plans, this is a time limited promotional offer that ends on July 2, 2019.
  • And finally like the other TELUS plans, the data is non-sharable which is different than the Rogers offering.

You can learn more, or sign up for this plan here.

Review: 2019 Hyundai Tucson Ultimate – Part 4

Posted in Products with tags on June 20, 2019 by itnerd

The 2019 Hyundai Tucson Ultimate is a SUV packed with healthy amount of technology in it. Let’s start with the safety aspects of the vehicle:

  • You get autonomous emergency braking which will bring the Tucson to a stop if it detects an object in front of it, and you take no action to avoid said object.
  • Blind spot monitoring is included. Not only does it warn you when you are about to do an ill advised lane change, but it also alerts you based on distance and relative speed.
  • Rear cross traffic alerts as well as rear parking sensors present to make either parking or reversing out of a parking space easier.
  • One real highlight is that lane departure warning and assist functionality is included. It is one of the better systems that I have tested lately and I say that because any steering corrections that it makes are gentle and does not freak you out while doing so. Plus if it has to make an audible warning, it does so in a way that doesn’t freak out you or your passengers.
  • There’s an attention assist feature which monitors your driving and will suggest that you should take a break if it thinks you are getting tired.
  • You get automatic headlights so that you never forget to turn the headlights on or off. You also get automatic windshield wipers as well.
  • Adaptive Cruise Control with traffic stop and go is on board and I used it to make stop and go traffic situations far more bearable as it will almost stop and go on its own. The only exception is if the Tucson has been sitting stationary for a bit which requires you to tap the accelerator to get going again.

Now, the cool tech starts with this:

This 360 degree top view camera is the star of the show. Not only does it give you a top view and rear view to allow you to park the Tucson perfectly, but it also allows you to see the curb so that you can see how far away you are from the curb to make parallel parking perfectly. I was impressed by the clarity of the camera and my wife was impressed by this whole system.

Other tech includes:

  • Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are included. It gets served up on an 8″ screen which is extremely sharp, has great contrast and is viewable in all lighting conditions. The infotainment system user interface was easy to navigate and didn’t display any lag whatsoever. That was completely in line with other Hyundai products that I’ve tried recently. One other note is that I observed that info such as song names from Apple CarPlay showed up in the center TFT screen which was cool as I have not seen that from another carmaker before. There’s hard buttons for functions like the phone, radio, navigation etc. That also helps to make this system easy to use.
  • There’s a 8 speaker Infinity audio system that sounds good as I had no complaints when I was listening to radio or tunes from my iPhone. My current audio torture playlist which includes LookLA, Ruelle, Snoh Aalegra, SAHED, Astrud Gilberto, Jorja Smith, Kali Uchis, 10,000 Maniacs, Death Cab For Cutie, Chicago, Röyksopp, Sofi Tucker, Art d’Ecco and Thutmose & NoMBe sounded great. You can also serve up AM,FM, audio from your phone via USB (which will also charge your phone) or Bluetooth, or SirusXM Radio.
  • This vehicle comes with Hyundai BlueLink, You can use it to remote start, cool down, heat up, or do a number of other things remotely to the Tucson using your smartphone.

The final part of this review will tie up some loose ends and I’ll give you my closing thoughts on the 2019 Hyundai Tucson Ultimate. Stay tuned for that tomorrow.
