I don’t follow pop music. But I do know who Kayne West is as I have one of his songs on my iPhone back when he was somewhat normal. And I do know that he’s been caught up in a controversy about antisemitic remarks that he made recently. But what got my attention today was the fact that he’s now going to buy right wing social media platform Parler. Yeah. That Parler who almost got Thanos snapped out of existence because of the part they played in the January 6th riots on Capitol Hill. Why would he want to this you ask? Well… I’ll let CNBC explain:
“In a world where conservative opinions are considered to be controversial we have to make sure we have the right to freely express ourselves,” said West, who now goes by Ye, in a statement released by Parler.
Financial terms of the deal weren’t announced. The company previously said it had raised $56 million in funding from outside investors.
The move comes after Ye was locked out of his Twitter and Instagram accounts for making antisemitic remarks. In one post, Ye played into a long-standing antisemitic conspiracy theory that fellow rapper Sean “Diddy” Combs is being controlled by Jewish people. On Twitter, meanwhile, Ye’s account was restricted after he said he would go “death con 3 on JEWISH PEOPLE.”
A representative for Ye didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
As I type this I am shaking my head. But let me be clear about this. West, Ye, or whatever he calls himself this week got punted off of Twitter and Instagram because he’s a racist. And not because those platforms are anti-conservative. That anti-conservative rhetoric is just a smokescreen and everyone knows it. And this moron simply buying another social media platform so that he can spout his racist views isn’t defending conservative values. It’s about giving himself a platform to continue to be a racist while not being held accountable for his actions. I truly hope that Apple and Google are watching this. Because they should take note of this and punt the Parler app from their respective app stores as racism cannot ever be tolerated under any circumstances.
