About

I am a tech support nerd who runs a consulting company in Toronto Canada called The IT Nerd. People have often asked me what my opinions are, so I created this blog as a response to that.

I will speak my mind and there will be those who don’t agree with my opinions. But I will not shy away from expressing them and justifying them. By the same token, if someone says something that makes me want to re-evaluate what I’ve said, I’ll man up to that and admit it. The blog does have a Canadian spin to it, but don’t let that scare you away from reading its contents. There’s plenty for everyone, including tips, reviews and advice besides my commentary. There’s also a healthy amount of product reviews on this blog as well, so if you want my thoughts on the latest smartphone, piece of software, or even a car, you can check my product reviews for my thoughts. I also spend a lot of time on cybersecurity and exposing the latest scams that are out there that prey on the unsuspecting.

Enjoy the blog and don’t forget to leave a comment if you agree or disagree with what I’ve said. You can also e-mail me at nerd@theitnerd.ca or follow me on Mastodon via noc.social with the handle @The_IT_Nerd@noc.social, as well as Bluesky with the handle @theitnerd.bsky.social. I do also have a presence on Twitter at @The_IT_Nerd but I rarely post there due to what Twitter has become as of late. You can also use those means to contact me with a press release or a product that you want to review.

  1. Very cool website – I use it as my homepage now. Hard to find internet news on a website without all of the cluster and junk that you find most places.

  2. Hello,
I want buy an article and post my permanent link on your blog or maybe just post it in your old article on some phrase, or just post permanent link in your blog or in blogroll (if you have it). How much will it cost? If you can do it, please contact me.
    Thank you,
    Son

  3. […] Well, it’s great that they reached out. But I’m not a Bell customer. At least not anymore because of Bell customer service #Fails like this one. But it’s clear that Bell is trying to make this go away. Thus if you’re a Bell customer, please let me know how they are enticing you to make this go away by hitting me up using one of these methods. Thank you for sharing your Rogers’ and Bell experiences.

I just ordered Ignite IPTV today for an install next week.

I have the same network design (NAS Box, IP Phone, bridged modem with a Netgear ORBI mesh) so I feel more confident this type configuration will work.

    Cheers from Ottawa

  7. Nice article. I’m on Asus RT-AC68U & HH3K. I have been with Bell since 2019. At first with help of media converter i completely bypassed ISP router (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXAF-fQJHqE&t=503s) Howevever at the end of Dec 2021 it stopped working. Since then i switched to DMZ strategy and it has been working good so far except for loosing connection for few seconds few times in a day. In the new year I’m getting a gigahub with 3Gbps speed in a weeks time. I was wondering if I take it out of DMZ but put the two routers on two different subnets if that will mitigate the dual NAT situation? Let me know your thoughts. Feel free to email me so that we can connect.
