Review: Kena kai DataSafe ‘Croc’ Patterned Italian Leather Security Men’s Bi-fold Wallet

I needed a new wallet. But I’m very picky about the wallet that I choose as I want it to block RFID scanning. That’s important because of the implications of things like fraud and identity theft. Just read this story that I did several years ago to see what I mean. So I shopped around for a bit and settled on the Kena kai DataSafe ‘Croc’ Patterned Italian Leather Security Men’s Bi-fold Wallet. It’s main promise is that their DataSafe Technology meets or exceeds the US Government’s FIPS-201 security standards.

The wallet is made of real leather in a crocodile pattern and it has a bit of a gloss to it that makes it feel very upscale. You have a total of six credit card slots (three on either side) as well as a flap on the left hand side of the wallet that gives you two windowed card holders for your drivers license, bus pass or some other ID that you may need to frequently show. Inside the section that you would insert paper currency into, there are two small pockets. I assume these are for bus tickets or coins and that might prove handy for some. Overall, the wallet feels well constructed.

Now one thing to note is that this wallet is very slim. So if you carry around a lot of stuff in your wallet such as reward cards, insurance cards and the like, you may find this wallet to be on the small side. I was forced to get rid of the least frequently used cards in my wallet to make it work for me. As for the RFID block capabilities of the wallet, as long as the wallet was closed, I was not able to get any of my RFID enabled credit cards to register on the RFID reader that I tested it with. That’s good enough for me.

Now on to the big question. How much does this cost? If you want black, it’s $69.99. If you want brown, it’s $99.99. Not cheap. But given the classy feel, quality construction and the RFID blocking capabilities, I think it’s a price worth paying. Check it out if you’re concerned about protecting your personal information.
