Review: Qi Universal Wireless Charging Plate
Everyone has to charge their smartphone. Usually that means that you’ll have to plug in a cable. But some phones such as the Nokia Lumia 820 and 920 as well as the Samsung Galaxy S4 have the ability to be charged via inductive charging which means that you don’t require a cable. You just require a charging plate. Case in point is the Qi Universal Wireless Charging Plate supplied to me by my friends at Mobilefun. It works with pretty much any phone and allows you to charge your phone easily.
To test this, I borrowed a friend’s Galaxy S4. When I placeed the S4 on it, nothing happened for a few seconds. Then it started charging. The big hint that it is charging is that a blue light starts to flash. Now this blue light It is anything but subtle. It is actually quite bright and large. Thus you would not want this in your bedroom because you will not be sleeping. The other thing that I will note is that it gets warm. I was concerned at first, but that appears to be “normal” for this sort of device as I found out that the Nokia charging plate does the same thing. When the phone is charged, the charging process is stopped and the charging plate turns off. That makes it impossible to screw up something like your battery for example. Now if your smartphone doesn’t have wireless charging capability built in, Qi does make an adapter that allow you to retrofit this capability onto your phone. That way anyone with any phone can use the charging plate.
Other than the light being way too bright, I have no other negatives about about the Qi Universal Wireless Charging Plate to mention. It works as advertised with no issues. Check it out if you want an easier way to charge your smartphone.
