Review: Quirky Pivot Power
The Quirky Pivot Power is something that I wished was invented years ago. The reason being is that power bars don’t provide a lot of room for many of the oddly shaped AC adapters and plugs that accompany cellphones, computers, tablets, laptops and other electronic devices. The Quirky Pivot Power changes that so that you can plug in whatever you want.
Now there’s a bunch of things that make this power bar unique:
The plug is at a 90 degree angle. That means it takes up very little space and you can put it behind furniture for example and not have the furniture stick out excessively from the wall. Plus you’re less likely to do damage to the plug itself. I should also note that the cord is six feet long and has a very heavy duty feel to it.
I used a power adapter from am old Linksys router to illustrate how much space you have between the outlet to either side of it it. As you can see I could plug in something wider and not affect the plugs on either side.
Another illustration of how much space each plug gives you. A normal power bar would pack these four plugs much closer together and you’d likely have one plug that you couldn’t use.
The Pivot Power truly pivots. As you can see it pivots around this table leg. Thus you can make it fit around anything you want or shape it to fit whatever you need to plug into it.
The only thing that I could find was a negative was the power switch. It glows in a dark room and if that room is small, you’ll notice it. But on the flip side, the switch feels like a quality switch unlike what is found on most power bars.
Clearly the Pivot Power is very versatile. But that’s not all it has going for it. It provides 672 joules of power protection. That’s excellent because your average power bar provides 200 to 400 joules of power protection before it fails. Keep in mind that at whatever point the power bar fails, it could mean that your electronics may get fried. So the higher the amount of joules it can take, the better off you are. It’s also feels solid and looks like it will stand up to whatever you can throw at it.
So, would I recommend the Quirky Pivot Power? YES! Without hesitation. This is a unique product that if you’ve ever had to plug in bulky power adapters into a traditional power bar, you’ll appreciate what the Pivot Power brings to the table. Plus it will protect anything that you have plugged into it better than most power bars. If that’s not enough for you, it’s the winner of a Red Dot design award in 2012. That’s some serious street cred so to speak. You can either surf to the Quirky website or check out your local retailer to get your hands on one today. You’ll be glad you did.
