First Look: Sony Xperia Z1, Xperia Z Ultra, And Accessories
Yesterday I got a chance to look at the new Sony Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra smartphones. Here’s a quick look at the Z1:
Three colors are available. Every carrier gets black. Rogers will get purple exclusively.
Why am I showing you a headphone jack? Simple, it’s waterproof. Unlike the original Xperia Z which was water resistant, the Z1 is waterproof right down to the headphone jack. Impressive! Also note how thin the phone is and the fact that it has aluminium edges.
It also has a waterproof camera shutter. That’s important because the Xperia Z didn’t have one and that was an issue if you wanted to take photos underwater. Now it’s a non issue.
Here’s the business end of the phone. The screen uses the same sort of tech that Sony HDTVs use. Thus it has one impressive screen.
Here’s the Xperia Z Ultra “phablet.” It’s got a vibrant 6.4″ screen and you’re looking at it inside a case that not only provides protection, but it also provides additional battery live. The Z Ultra is a Bell exclusive. One thing to note, when I saw it, the person who had it pulled it out of their jacket pocket. So it is easy to carry.
This is the Sony DSC-QX100 smartphone attachable lens. It pairs to the Xperia Z1 or Xperia Z Ultra via NFC and can be used wirelessly and separate from the smartphone or attached to it which turns your smartphone into a SLR. Oh yeah, it works with ANY smartphone. Not just the Xperias. Though it will use WiFi to do so. It has a 1.0 type Exmor R CMOS sensor and 3.6x optical zoom. It takes pictures at 20.2 megapixels and contains a BIONZ processing engine which further enhances your images.
This is something that will come in handy for those who choose the Xperia Z Ultra. This is the SBH52 Smart Bluetooth Handset. Again, it works with any handset. When a call comes in via your smartphone, you can see who’s calling in the display. Press once to answer. You can use the SBH52 to view recent calls and call again directly. Move around freely and leave your phone in your pocket, bag or anywhere. Very cool! Oh, it also pairs with your Xperia Z Ultra via NFC as well.
I’ve requested a Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra for review. But based on my first look at the Xperia Z1 and Xperia Z Ultra, they’ll get very positive reviews from me. Plus these accessories are pretty impressive on their own regardless of what phone you own.
