Review: Muvit Ultra Thin Diary Flip Case For iPhone 5S / 5

If you have a new iPhone 5S or you have an iPhone 5 that needs a case, you’ve got a ton of options out there. But if you’re someone who wants a case that provides decent protection but is also minimal in nature, then the list shrinks in a hurry. One choice that fits the bill is the Muvit Ultra Thin Diary Flip Case for iPhone 5S / 5 provided to me by MobileFun. The case is a flip case that is very very thin.

It doesn’t add any bulk. But to achieve that, it has to fit tightly around the phone. Putting the case into the phone was frustrating for my wife as she couldn’t figure out how to do it. As a result she handed it over to me to get the job done. I had to slide the phone from the left side (where the plus and minus buttons are) and then pop in the right side. Next, and this is important, make sure your Lightning cable plugs in properly. My wife discovered this the hard way when she plugged the cable in and didn’t realize that is wasn’t charging. Thus she had a battery below 10% the next morning. When I looked at why, it was clear that the hole for the Lightning port in the case didn’t line up with the port itself. The case at the bottom required some massaging to make the hole for the line up properly. That’s the side effect of having a tightly fitting case.

Now the case is constructed from a tough reinforced polymer which is resistant to impact damage. I can say that if you put your phone in your pocket or purse, this case will protect your screen from impacts. The inside of the case has a suede that keep your iPhone from getting scratched. The outside looks like and feels like leather and looks classy. The case closes with a moulded hinge fastener, which allows you to keep the case firmly closed. That’s a nice touch as a lot of flip cases don’t do include such as fastener. Thus there’s always the possibility that your screen could end up exposed in a bag or purse. All the controls are accessible including the camera so you don’t give up anything by using this case. The sides and corners of the iPhone are exposed so it is possible a drop might hurt your phone. Though I will note that the edges of the case extend beyond the phone, so in theory there is some protection. The only way to know for sure is to drop the phone in the case. You’ll excuse me if I don’t do that. Another thing to note is that a screen protector is part of the package. Nice touch.

My verdict? If you want a case that keeps your iPhone 5S or 5 reasonably protected while not making it thick, consider Muvit Ultra Thin Diary Flip Case for iPhone 5S / 5. It’s thin, it’s light it looks classy. It’s worth a look if you’re shopping for a case.
