Review: Phantom Glass Screen Protector For iPhone 6

I recently acquired a new iPhone 6 and the first thing that I always do when I get a new phone is to is put some sort of screen protector on it. As luck would have it, this was around the time that Phantom Glass reached out to me and supplied me with their screen protector for the iPhone 6. Here’s what it has going for it:

  • It has tempered glass so it can take the hit so that your screen doesn’t have to.
  • It is supposed to have perfect clarity. We’ll see about that.
  • It is supposed to be easy to install leaving behind zero bubbles. We’ll see about that too.
  • It is oleophobic meaning it resists oils like the ones your body produces.
  • It’s Canadian made by 21-year-old Richard Waters and the company is located in my adopted hometown of Toronto.

So, with the help of my wife who took these photos, I went about installing it onto my new iPhone 6:

Step 1: Clean the phone with the supplied cleaner and microfiber cloth.

Step 2: Peel the back off the screen protector.

Step 3: Align the applicator over the phone and press firmly into the phone:

Step 4: Run your finger down the arrow.

Step 5: Remove the sticker over the arrow:

Step 6: Remove the applicator gently.

It was easy and painless. Now it did align perfectly so that you could not tell that you had a screen protector on it as it goes from one edge of the screen to another. The only clue being the added thickness which is negligible. That makes it good for those who use a case with their phone. I don’t currently have a case for this phone, but I tested it with my wife’s Hello Kitty bumper case for her iPhone 6 (don’t ask) and it worked fine.

I did notice that when the phone was off you could see this:

If you look in the middle you can see what look like to be two air bubbles. There’s a third down near the home button. I made these bubbles go away by firmly rubbing on those areas from the middle towards the the edge of the phone. Thus I have to assume that I did not press firmly enough in step 3 or step 4 of the instructions that were provided.

I used the phone for several days and the screen behaved as normal from a touch and gesture perspective. It was also perfectly clear and sharp from a visual perspective. I haven’t dared to try testing the tempered glass by hitting it with something. But causal pressing on the screen protector showed that it has zero give. Thus I have to believe that your screen will be well protected. I also noted that the screen can be cleaned simply by using a tissue as long as it is not too dirty. That’s a nice plus!

The price is right for the Phantom Glass screen protector as well. It’s $40 CDN which is a good price for what you get. My only suggestion would be to not do what I did and press firmly in step 3 or step 4. If you do that, you’ll have a perfect installation for your Phantom Glass Screen protector.

By the way, Phantom Glass makes screen protectors for many smartphones. Check out their website to see if yours is on their list.
