BBM To Be Available For iPhone And Android This Weekend

Man, the news just keeps coming for BlackBerry.

A blog posting on BlackBerry’s site has announced that BlackBerry Messenger or BBM as it’s more commonly known as, will be available this weekend:

BBM will be available as a free download for Android smartphones running Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean (Android 4.x) beginning at 7AM EDT on September 21. BBM for iPhones running iOS 6 and iOS 7 will become available for each market on the App Store schedule of 12:01 AM local time on September 22. For more information, or to download BBM for Android or iPhone, visit www.BBM.com.

It’s interesting timing to release this on a weekend. That’s something that I do not typically see as you want to release on a weekday (but not Monday or Friday if you can) so that you can maximize your tech support resources. I guess they want the stage all to themselves to generate some positive press. Given the sort of negative news that’s floating around, BlackBerry could use some positive press.
