Microsoft Unleashes “Vista Doesn’t Suck” Campaign On World

You might remember that Microsoft dropped the hint that they were working on countering Apple’s Mac/PC ads. Well, the battle begins now. Microsoft has created a website to give users compelling reasons to update to Vista. It has a rather frank admission:

“When Windows Vista debuted in January 2007, we declared it the best operating system we had ever made. “Windows Vista is beautiful,” The New York Times raved. It’s humbling that millions of you agree.

But we know a few of you were disappointed by your early encounter. Printers didn’t work. Games felt sluggish. You told us—loudly at times—that the latest Windows wasn’t always living up to your high expectations for a Microsoft product.”

Then Microsoft goes into great detail about how Vista has improved since then with “100 Reasons Why You’ll Be Speechless” as well as “10 Things To Try.”

I’m not sure how long this site has been up (as it has the text “So as we prepare to stop selling Windows XP on June 30” on it) but it has caught the attention of the traditional media today which implies its new (or it’s another one of those situations where it has been around for a while and somehow the planet just found out about it). While this isn’t the hard hitting anti-Apple ads that I was expecting, this might be a good start for Microsoft to try and get things back on track.

Or it may become the subject of a new Apple commercial.
