Cuil: A Google Killer?

Meet Cuil. It’s a new search engine launched by a few ex-Google employees and it has a plie of VC cash behind it. It claims to be a different sort of search engine:

“Rather than rely on superficial popularity metrics, Cuil searches for and ranks pages based on their content and relevance. When we find a page with your keywords, we stay on that page and analyze the rest of its content, its concepts, their inter-relationships and the page’s coherency.”

Time will tell if they are able to steal markeshare from Google though. However, just for giggles I did a search for “The IT Nerd” in which my blog pops up as #1 in a Google search. My blog doesn’t pop up at all in Cuil. However when I search from “” it does bring up some better results. Perhaps it may take time for their search results to improve.

This one is worth watching….At least for the next little while.

One Response to “Cuil: A Google Killer?”

  1. yes, i tried cuil with a few simple searches and got zero. tried the same with google and found what i expected. also, i’m still trying to figure out how to view the search results on cuil; for some reason, it doesn’t seem as simple / intuitive as google.
