Google Previews Chrome OS

Google held an event today to preview their upcoming OS called Chrome. Let me hit the highlights for you:

  • The OS is aimed at netbooks for the most part.
  • One of the main focus items is booting the OS quickly. According to Google, that’s currently down to 7 seconds.
  • Hard drives are verboten. Chrome will instead use flash memory and remote cloud storage.
  • “Chromium OS” is an open source version which will allow any interested developers to contribute to developing the best possible operating system. More details in the Google blog.
