Review: Team Fortress 2

Recently, Steam served up Team Fortress 2 up for free…. As in zip, zero, nada… To their customers. I’m always a sucker for free things so I got a copy. Basically this is a co-operative first person shooter game that has you working with others to perform tasks against another team such as capture the flag. Of course when it comes to co-operative games, your success of failure depends on whom you play with. But even with that caveat, this game is just fun. The graphics are great (assuming of course you have a graphics card capable of playing this game), the violence is cartoonish (but I wouldn’t give it to your kids as there’s still lots of blood and guts). You can earn upgraded weapons based on you skill, or you can buy them if you can’t be bothered to wait. I suppose the developers have to make money somehow. The only downside that I can come up with this game is that there are limited bot support. That is beyond the instructional levels, you can’t simply play by yourself. You’re largely forced to play with others. Not the worst thing in the world, but it is sometimes annoying to log onto a server and play with a bunch of 16 year olds talking about how they’re “pwning” each other.

Bottom line: If you want to blow things up to relieve some stress, check out Team Fortress 2. Just make sure you’re online when you do.
