BlackBerry Q10 Due In US In May Or June? WTF?

From the “you have to be kidding department” comes this. An Associated Press interview with RIM BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins has this shocking admission from Heins:

Although Research in Motion Ltd. CEO Thorsten Heins said the exact release date will depend on each wireless provider, he said the physical keyboard version, the BlackBerry Q10, will likely be released eight to 10 weeks after a carrier releases a model with only a touch screen, the BlackBerry Z10. The Z10 is expected in the U.S. in mid-March, so eight to 10 weeks brings the U.S. date for the Q10 to mid-May to early June.

“We’re trying to get it as close as we can,” Heins said in an interview this week with The Associated Press.

This really seems stupid to me. The US is one of the largest cell phone markets in the world. Both the Q10 and Z10 should be on sale right now, not weeks or months from now. Now I will admit RIM BlackBerry is at the mercy of carriers testing and validating new phones before they are offered for sale. But having said that, you’d think that a company who is in an “all in” moment when it comes to their future would do everything possible to get these phones to market in the US as quickly as possible. Otherwise, they risk having these phones flop when they finally are available for sale because nobody will care.
