TomTom Taps DMTI To Provide Canadian Location Data

I’ve written about DMTI Spatial previously including an in depth look at what they do. One of the things that I noted at the time is that they provided location data to people such as Apple as well as various navigation companies. Today they announced that you can add TomTom to that list. The deal has DMTI providing highly precise Canadian address points and other geospatial data to TomTom for the company’s GPS navigation systems and offerings.

Here’s what both parties had to say about this deal:

“DMTI will help take TomTom Maps to the next level in Canada, by helping to make our map products even more accurate,” said Eszter Pattantyus, Vice President, TomTom Maps. “Millions of drivers use TomTom data every day; therefore, precision is absolutely crucial to us so that we can provide the best navigational experience.”

“TomTom’s decision to use data from DMTI further validates our position as the market leader for location based data services in Canada,” offered Phil Kaszuba, DMTI’s Vice President and General Manager. “TomTom has a reputation for high quality navigation solutions and we are proud to partner with them to bring our nation’s best location data to Canadian consumers where and when they need it.”

It shows what kind a company DMTI is when they partner with industry leaders such as TomTom. And they’re Canadian to boot which is a good thing for those like myself who like to wave the flag for Canadian success stories. If you’re a TomTom user living in Canada or driving to Canada, you should be looking forward to your next map update for your GPS unit.
