It depends. The 802.11ac proposed standard promises Gigabit speeds over the air which is very appealing to many people out there. But only if you use said router with a device that supports 802.11ac. Having said that, depending on the router you buy, you might get faster speeds with existing 802.11a/b/g/n devices. For example, Apple’s new Airport Extreme which supports 802.11ac will do just that. I assume that many other 801.11ac routers will do something similar.
On the flip side, 801.11ac is a proposed standard and not an actual standard. Thus you’re on the bleeding edge of technology which is not always the best place to be as you can have issues that you can do nothing about. Apple for example has had problems with their new MacBook Air models which support 801.11ac. I personally avoid proposed standards for that reason.
At the end of the day, you have to decide if the pros outweigh the cons when moving to anything such as this. If it were me, I would not move to 802.11ac just yet. But you might have a use case that supports moving to 802.11ac right now. Choose wisely.
