Microsoft Admits They Built Too Many Surface Tablets

This is rare. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer popped up in a Microsoft Town Hall Meeting and admitted that Microsoft did something wrong. According to The Verge, here’s what he said:

“We built a few more devices than we could sell,”

Hmmm…. Seeing as they had to write down $900 million worth of tablets, the words “you think?” come to mind. But he wasn’t done there:

“We’re not selling as many Windows devices as we want to,”

Mr. Ballmer. This isn’t news. The real question is, how are you going to pull Microsoft out of this? Is it this devices and services thing? Is there another plan on the horizon? What’s the plan? That’s what Microsoft employees and investors really want to know.

Here’s the good news. Admitting that you have a problem is the first step in fixing it. This is the first time that I can remember that Microsoft has has ever done that. Perhaps this is the start of a path to recovery.
