Industry Minister To Canadian Telcos: “We will continue to stay the course” [UPDATED]

If war has been declared by Telus suing the Canadian Government, then the Government clearly is willing to fight. Industry Minister James Moore came out with a statement that The Globe And Mail  has covered that says that nothing has changed when it comes to their wireless policy:

“Our policy has been clear and remains unchanged: Greater competition and liberalized investment has meant more choices at lower prices for Canadian families,” he said.

“We will continue to stay the course by ensuring Canadians benefit from a competitive telecommunications industry.”

The pressure has been ratcheting up on the Canadian Government to change course when it comes to wanting create a more competitive landscape for the wireless industry. Joining the fray are the top 150 Canadian CEOs who have sided with the big three. However it is clear that this isn’t having any effect in Ottawa.

Now that the battle lines have been drawn, expect an all out fight as the big three telcos fight to keep the status quo and the Government fights to change it. Trust me, there will be no prisoners taken in this fight.

UPDATE: Industry Minster James Moore has a post on his website that adds to this discussion.
