The bleeding apparently continues for BlackBerry. Today’s example of this is the news reported by Cantechletter that BlackBerry has “Gutted” it’s US sales force:
The source, based in Waterloo, says consumer sales is basically “gone” and “enterprise is gutted”.
” I had twenty guys (from BlackBerry) on BBM from sales, and they have all posted alternate emails on their status,” says the source.
Now I spent a couple of hours trying to find confirmation of this, and the closest that I could come is a Wall Street Journal article that quotes the Cantechletter article and has this quote from a BlackBerry PR person:
I can confirm a small number of employees were laid off today,” a company spokesman said, without providing additional details.
Lovely. If I am considering buying new or replacement smartphones for my staff, this news will make me look to see what the competition has to offer. Not good if you’re hoping for a BlackBerry comeback.
UPDATE: I’m guessing that the market wasn’t thrilled with this news. The stock is down over 5%. This even after BlackBerry denied that it axed part of its sales force.
