It seems that Alicia Keys who was introduced at this time last year as BlackBerry’s Global Creative Director will no longer be associated with the company according to the Toronto Star:
BlackBerry is parting ways with singer Alicia Keys, after a year-long collaboration with the smartphone maker.
The Waterloo, Ont.-based company says Keys will leave her role as its global creative director on Jan. 30.
Now when she was introduced, it was said that her role would be to work with app designers, developers, carriers and the musical community to “inspire projects”. I was not sure what that meant at the time and I am not sure that anyone else did. She did create a scholarship program to get women into technology related fields and the word on the street was that she was seen at BlackBerry related events. But many, including yours truly, saw her as a celebrity who BlackBerry were likely hoping could help make BlackBerry hip, cool and relevant. They might have had better success if they got Justin Bieber for that role as he really wanted to do that from all accounts.
