I may be in India at the moment, but word is filtering through that Toronto has had blackout issues today. Now the people that I am working for in India don’t understand what the big deal is as power can fail two or three times a day in Gurgaon (it failed twice on the first day that I was here). But in Toronto it’s a big deal and one company that is taking advantage of that is General Motors Canada. Here’s what’s popping up on their Twitter feeds using the hashtag #darkto:
In a clever move, they’ve leveraged this hashtag to promote two features. The availability of USB ports and/or 120v outlets in their cars to keep devices charged, and the availability of OnStar 4G LTE WiFi to keep people connected. My quick look through Twitter doesn’t show that any other company has taken advantage of the blackout in the same way. So kudos to General Motors Canada for being quick think of this. I’m not sure it will sell many cars, but I think it will get some attention.
