With Major League Baseball postseason fever in full effect, the mobile app Score More Baseball which I’ve written about previously has been officially rebranded to Top Score Baseball. Top Score Baseball simplifies the scoring of baseball games and brings the power of “Moneyball” to amateur, rec, and youth baseball teams, using the same performance-based approach now used by over a dozen Major League Baseball teams.
Season one of Score More Baseball saw over 8,500 downloads, with over 2,000 coaches signing up and registering their teams. The big surprise? For all the talk of which smartphones are the true app platforms, BlackBerry users led the way, accounting for over two thirds of application downloads. Android was second, and iOS was a distant third. That was interesting because this app was created by ex-BlackBerry employees.
Here’s some key lessons that Score More learned:
- Lesson one: Err on the side of caution for server capacity, redundancy, and crash notifications – it’s easier to throttle back than it is to scale up to demand.
- Lesson two: Admit your faults, be honest with the customer, and make it right. A strong commitment to customer service, acting quickly to address customer concerns, and a definitive human touch can help smooth over even the most challenging of issues.
- Lesson three: The speed at which new features can be introduced slows dramatically after launch as attention shifts to customer support and addressing customer concerns. Even so, the team at Top Score Baseball are pleased to introduce offline app usage with full sync to the cloud, export of stats to Excel, and support for coed baseball teams.
Important lessons for sure.
Top Score Baseball is available for download in Google Play, BlackBerry World, and iOS App Store. More details are available at www.topscorebaseball.com.
