If you were using the AT&T 2G network, you’re not using it as of the start of the year as the US telco retired that network from active use. In theory nobody should be using that network. But they clearly didn’t check as the shutdown of this network is causing significant issues for the San Francisco Muni bus and train system. The core issue is this: The system that predicts arrival times of buses and trains ran on AT&T’s 2G network. Vehicles without upgraded systems installed, which totals about 70% of their fleet, don’t show up on NextMuni. Thus they basically don’t exist to transit users. And it could take weeks to fix this. It sounds like nobody at AT&T talked to anyone who runs these buses and trains because that’s one hell of a #fail.
