Metrolinx Pwned…. By The North Koreans

The transit agency of the Greater Toronto and Hamilton area known as Metrolinx is saying today that it was pwned by North Korean hackers. They’re also saying that the hackers didn’t get to anything that controls transit vehicles, nor was there a breach in privacy. The word on the street says that the attack came via a virus that was routed through Russia, but Metrolinx hasn’t confirmed that.

And that’s all we know. Beyond those details, Metrolinx isn’t saying much else citing the ever popular “security reasons.” But it is interesting that they would outright point the finger at North Korea without really serving up details as to why. Sure it is possible that they did it as North Korean hackers are known for this sort of thing. But some details on that front would be nice.
