One Executive Order Wasn’t Enough For Trump To Potentially Ban TikTok…. So He Serves Up Another One

US President Trump already signed an executive order to take out TikTok as well as another one to take out WeChat for national security reasons. But because we live in weird times, Trump signed a new executive order that gives ByteDance who are the Chinese owners of TikTok 90 days to sell or spin off the US TikTok business. In the order, Trump says that there is “credible evidence” that ByteDance “might take action that threatens to impair the national security of the United States.” Which leads me to believe that he is giving more time for Microsoft who has been working to buy TikTok to get the job done.

But there’s more to it than that. In the new order, Trump demands that ByteDance will destroy all TikTok data associated with United States users and inform the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States when this process is completed. I am guessing that this is meant to keep that data out of the hands of the Chinese government.

Now this doesn’t change the fact that TikTok is likely going to sue the Trump administration over this. It was supposed to happen last Tuesday, so one has to assume that it will drop at any time.
