How To OFFICIALLY Add Your Ontario COVID-19 Vaccination Record To Apple Wallet Using iOS 15.1

Since Ontario moved to having a Vaccine Passport based around QR codes, I wrote about an unofficial way of getting them onto your iPhone via a third party service. Some people had misgivings about using a third party service and I can understand that. So that makes today’s release of iOS 15.1 important as now you can put the QR code onto your iPhone without the use of a third party. And it’s pretty straight forward assuming that you already have the vaccination record on your iPhone.

First you will need to go to Apple Health after updating to iOS 15.1. You will see this:

Click “Add to Wallet. Then you will see this:

Click “Add to Wallet”. You should then see this:

You should be done at this point. But if you wish to confirm that it was added, simply go to Apple Wallet and you could see a card that looks like this:

I’ve covered up my name and QR code for privacy reasons. But you can see that this works fine and took me less than a minute to accomplish. Now if you don’t have your vaccination record on your phone, you will need to add it to your iPhone via the method that I outlined here. It should have the option to add to Apple Wallet. I haven’t tested this myself as I had my vaccination records on my iPhone already. So if you don’t and you could detail how it’s done and send me a note, I’d really appreciate it.

Finally. this supports any province, state or territory that uses SMART Health Cards. If they do, you’ll be good to go. Let me know how you get on with adding your COVID-19 vaccination record to Apple Wallet.

UPDATE: Frequent reader Garry reached out to me with these steps to add your vaccination record to Health and Apple Wallet if it isn’t already there via scanning a QR code:

  1. Open the Camera app from the Home Screen, Control Center, or Lock Screen on your iPhone.
  2. Select the rear-facing camera.
  3. Hold your device so that the QR code appears in the viewfinder in the Camera app. Your device recognizes the QR code and shows a Health app notification.
  4. Tap the Health app notification.
  5. For verifiable vaccination records, tap Add to Wallet & Health to add the record to the Health app and Wallet app.
  6. Tap Done.

Thanks Garry!
