New Information Shows That HP May Have Had No Choice To Cut Ties With Hurd

I’ve been wondering for some time if HP should have dumped Mark Hurd. After all, what was known about the case sounded really sketchy. It now appears that some facts are out and they don’t look good for Hurd. First of all, the Wall Street Journal sheds light on Hurd’s relationship with Jodie Fisher who is a B-Movie actress and perhaps a porno star. A letter sent by Fisher’s lawyer set off the firestorm:

The letter that set off the furor was sent on Ms. Fisher’s behalf by celebrity lawyer Gloria Allred. It included an eight-page chronology of meetings in hotels around the world. At some, say people who have seen the letter, it alleged that Mr. Hurd sexually harassed Ms. Fisher, in certain cases touching her body in sexually suggestive ways.

The letter also said Mr. Hurd and Ms. Fisher discussed intimate details of the CEO’s life, including his personal life at home. And it alleged that Mr. Hurd told Ms. Fisher of H-P’s plan to buy EDS at a Madrid meeting that began near the end of March 2008. H-P had just made a confidential offer to buy EDS; it wasn’t until May that H-P unveiled the $13.9 billion deal.

Hmm…. Leaking a potential multi-billion dollar sale to someone you might be sexually harassing might be considered a career limiting move. So you can’t be surprised that this started a chain of events that led to his exit from the CEO’s office. Still it really sounds bizarre and is more fitting for TMZ.com rather than for the tech news. My advice would be to read the story for yourself and make up your own mind.
