This is a happy Friday for Apple fanbois. No, I’m not talking about the iPad 2 which is hitting the streets in Canada and other nations today. I’m talking about a patent lawsuit that Nokia filed against Apple. Reuters is reporting that a judge has decided that Apple did not violate any of the five patents in question:
Judge James Gildea, of the International Trade Commission, which hears many patent cases, said in his initial determination that Apple did not violate the Nokia patents. The complaint had been filed in December 2009.
The next step will be for the entire commission to uphold or throw out Gildea’s decision. The target date for that decision is Aug. 1, 2011.
Don’t expect it to end the issue. Nokia has a bunch of other lawsuits pending, which means the fun will continue for some time yet.
