Small Companies Are Targeted By Virus Writers: Symantec

If you have a small or medium sized company, then you are a big target for a virus writers worldwide. A press release from the company lays out the bad news:

Symantec Corp. today announced the findings of its June 2012 Symantec Intelligence Report, which shows 36 percent of all targeted attacks (58 per day) during the last six months were directed at businesses with 250 or fewer employees. As reported in the recent ISTR, this figure was 18 percent at the end of December 2011.

During the first half of the year, the total number of daily targeted attacks continued to increase at a minimum rate of 24 percent with an average of 151 targeted attacks being blocked each day during May and June.

This is a clear signal to these businesses that they need to take steps to protect themselves as virus writers seem them as being easy to exploit. That’s not a good place to be. There’s more eye opening information in the June 2012 Symantec Intelligence Report. There’s all sorts of items in here that the people who are responsible for securing their networks need to know so that they can protect themselves accordingly. Regardless if your business is big or small.
