Apple Fires The Person Behind Maps

The fallout from the Apple Maps fiasco continues. After walking Scott Forstall among others to the door, the guy behind Apple Maps is apparently gone:

Richard Williamson, who oversaw the mapping team, was pushed out by Senior Vice President Eddy Cue, said the people, who asked not to be named because the information wasn’t yet public. Cue, who took over last month as part of a management shakeup, is seeking advice from outside mapping-technology experts and prodding digital maps provider TomTom NV (TOM2) to fix landmark and navigation data it shares with Apple.

This shows that things might be worse than once thought within the Maps group. Either that, or the clearing out of those behind this mess is still in progress. At this point it doesn’t matter. The only thing that matters is getting Maps fixed. Apple better put that into hurry up mode to mitigate the negative PR.
