Rogers Announces New International Roaming Passes

One thing that I have said about the cost of roaming from Canadian cell carriers is that it’s far to expensive to take your phone on a trip. Rogers is trying to address that by coming out with new roaming packages for data. Here’s what my contact at Rogers had to say:

I wanted to share with you that we’ve announced new international roaming passes in locations such as Europe, Asia, the Caribbean, Latin America, Australia and New Zealand. Customers can purchase their international roaming pass through their mobile device by texting “travel” to 7626 or visiting www.rogers.com/m/roam through their device’s browser.

Here are the details of the new one month international roaming internet passes:

Countries Prices MBs Included
Europe $50 40MB
Europe $100 100MB
Europe $225 300MB
Asia, Caribbean, Latin America & Oceania $50 15MB
Asia, Caribbean, Latin America & Oceania $100 40MB
Asia, Caribbean, Latin America & Oceania $225 100MB
Africa $50 10MB
Africa $100 25MB
Africa $225 75MB

Of course, our new packages still feature real-time text alerts sent directly to customers’ mobile device so they can easily monitor their data usage. As well,  roaming internet is stopped when the pass expires, by time or usage, so customers never pay more than they plan to. When customers reach their data limit, they’ll be presented with the option of buying another pass or switching to pay-per-use.

Full details can be found at rogers.com/roaming

If you’re married to your cell phone number and need data access for a few days, this is an option. Take a look at these prices and see if they fit your needs. Though for me personally, I will do what I’ve always done when I’ve travelled to Europe which is buying a SIM card and using a local service for data and voice. For me it makes sense, but your mileage may vary.
