Hey IT Nerd! I’ve Heard A Rumor That The Playbook Is Being Discontinued. Is That True?

That might be the case based on the fact that when I listened to BlackBerry’s earnings call last week, they indicated that the company would not be producing any more software updates for the tablet. Something that was later confirmed by The Financial Post. The only reason BlackBerry would do that is that the tablet is being killed off. It doesn’t come as a great shock as they only sold 100,000 of them last quarter. Apple sold 22.9 million iPads in Q1 2013 by contrast. So BlackBerry sold less Playbooks in one quarter approximately what Apple sells in iPads in a day. When you look at things that way, it’s clear that the Playbook clearly isn’t resonating and BlackBerry would be wasting money supporting it any further. Thus if you have a Playbook, you might want to start looking at Apple or Android tablets if you need to have a tablet.

  1. I would suggest that your advice should be, to buy nothing Blackberry, as they will quite posssible pull all support if the items sales don’t meet their expectations.
