Clearly the war between the Canadian Government and the big 3 telcos is heating up. I say that because The Globe And Mail is reporting that Ottawa is about to twist the screws on the the big 3:
Industry Minister James Moore is embarking on a cross-country speaking tour, beginning Friday in Vancouver, that he says will deliver the message that the government is standing by its policy of bringing more competition into the Canadian wireless market.
The government has created a number of incentives to lure foreign telecom companies such as Verizon Communications Inc. into setting up shop here.
Clearly the Canadian Government isn’t being swayed by the big 3. In fact, if you read the article it becomes clear that the big 3 are losing the war of words with them. If I were the big 3, I would rethink my strategy as with less than 5 weeks to go before interested parties have to declare their intentions for the upcoming wireless auction, nobody in Ottawa is changing their mind.
As the kids say, it’s on like Donkey Kong.
