Rogers Announces Trade Up Program

If I were to look into my desk, I’d find four used BlackBerries of various vintages plus my wife’s Palm Cento which she replaced with an iPhone, not to mention several old phones (not smartphones, old school phones that just did phone calls). That’s a lot of stuff that is sitting there and I’m going to guess that others are have similar piles. Rogers has thought of that and come up with the Rogers Trade Up Program to address that. Here’s how it works:

  • Customers bring their old smartphone or tablet to their local participating Rogers store or search directly on their smartphone by visiting www.rogers.com/tradeupquote;
  • The device must be able to power up and have a working touchscreen with no cracks;
  • New Rogers customers can use their trade-in credit towards the purchase a new device or accessories. Existing Rogers wireless customers will receive this credit on the second or third bill after their upgrade.

Trade-up quotes will be valid for 30 days after they’re given.

Of course it goes without saying that customers should backup photos and music from their devices before bringing them in. Also a factory reset of the phone will ensure customers’ personal information is deleted. But if you don’t know how to do that, the store will also perform a factory reset upon receiving a customer’s device.

My thoughts? This will at least give you some value out of your old device while keeping it out of a landfill. Therefore I like this. I wish they had come out with this sooner.
