Samsung Announces Galaxy Note 3, 10.1 & Galaxy Gear

Samsung had a media event today where they announced the latest version of their Galaxy Note 3 and their Galaxy Note 10.1. along with the Galaxy Gear watch. Let me hit the highlights:

  • Galaxy Note 3: This is Samsung’s latest “phablet” (phone and tablet). It comes with a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display, a quad-core or eight-core processor depending on region, 3GB of RAM, a 13-megapixel camera and runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. On paper, this should crush pretty much anything else out there including phones and tablets that Samsung makes.
  • Galaxy Note 10: This is a 10.1″ tablet that features a 1.9 GHZ Octa Core processor, 2560×1600 WQXGA display will feature 3GB of RAM and an 8 megapixel camera. It comes in WiFi and 3G flavours. It too runs Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.
  • Galaxy Gear: This was the big news of the day. Samsung has beaten Apple’s rumored iWatch to market with the Galaxy Gear. It’s a smart watch comes to market with a 1.63-inch 320 x 320 resolution AMOLED touchscreen, built-in speakers, and a 1.9-megapixel camera in the strap. It has an 800MHz processor, 4GB of storage, and 512MB of RAM. It doesn’t operate by itself though. It needs to be paired to either the Galaxy Note 3 or Note 10.1 via Bluetooth 4.0 to work. If you do that, you can get messages and do calls Dick Tracy style for example. It also has an pedometer for the physically active.

All of these will be available in 140 countries beginning on September 25 and then the rest of the world in October.

It should be interesting to see what Apple announces at their media event on September 10th to grab back some mindshare.
