According to the numbers released today, it does not appear that Apple needs help to convince people to upgrade to iOS 7. But the NYPD is helping them anyway. All Things Digital is reporting that the NYPD has been handing out flyers to those who were in line for an iPhone outside Apple stores among other places urging them to upgrade to iOS 7. Now iOS 7 comes with a feature called Activation Lock that stops a thief from erasing and reselling the phone. That makes them less desirable to thieves in theory. So you can see why the NYPD would want you to upgrade. A very interesting strategy if you ask me.
This is one time that I would suggest that you take their advice regardless of where you live.
