Apple Hires Blue Jay Exec

Apple has hired Jay Sartori who was the assistant GM of the Toronto Blue Jays baseball club to run a section of the Apple App Store. Here’s what Sportsnet had to say on this:

Sartori is taking over as the tech titan’s manager of the App Store’s sports and entertainment category, a departure from the arbitration, contract and collective bargaining agreement interpretation work he handled for the Blue Jays.

He’s been in the position since September, 2010, when he was lured over from the Washington Nationals after a season as director of baseball operations there. Before that he worked for Major League Baseball’s labour department, helping negotiate the 2006 CBA.

Clearly Apple was impressed with something other than the fact that he was assistant GM at a baseball club that had a losing season after doubling its payroll by acquiring all sorts of high priced talent. Nevertheless, it is an interesting move which is clearly part of some grand plan that Tim Cook and company have.
