So, What Will Apple Announce At 1PM EST Today?

Apple today will have one of their famous media events. What’s going to be announced? There’s a number of rumours floating around. but here’s what I think is going to get announced:

  • The iPhone 6 will be announced. Expect to see two models which will have screen sizes of 4.7 inches and 5.5 inches. That will bring the iPhone in line with competing Android and Windows phones that have adopted larger displays. I’m thinking that you’ll see the floor in terms of storage set at 16GB, 32GB, 64GB being your choices. A 128GB variant has been rumored and I think you will see that as well. NFC  for mobile payments (along with some sort of announcement of a Apple payment system) will also be present along with faster LTE and 802.11ac. This is more conjecture, but I suspect a 13 MP camera will be part of the iPhone 6. The iPhone will ship in two weeks or so.
  • An Apple wearable device will be announced. I doubt it would be called “iWatch” but who knows. I do not think it will ship this year, but Apple will likely show off what it can do and enlist develop help to bring third party functionality to it. Expect this to be tied to a major announcement regarding HealthKit as it’s a safe bet that this wearable device will have the ability to tie into it via health related sensors that will be present on the wearable device.
  • iOS 8 will be demonstrated again with a ship date as early as Friday. Expect to see one or two things that were not announced at WWDC in June.
  • OS X Yosemite will be demonstrated again with a ship date of mid-October. Expect to see one or two things that were not announced at WWDC in June.
  • There will be no “one more thing.” Tim Cook doesn’t seem to be a fan of doing that.

Let’s see how many of these I get right as I am sure you’ll be keeping score at home.
