It appears that Apple is improving its Two Factor Authentication system by rolling out protection to iMessage and FaceTime users. The Guardian is reporting that signing into an iMessage or FaceTime account protected by two-step verification will ask users to input an app specific password, which can only be obtained by logging in to an Apple ID account on the web with an authentication code, thereby preventing any unauthorized login attempts.
Now this appears to be in the process of rolling out. My Apple ID required two factor authentication but so far, my wife’s Apple ID does not. So if you don’t see it, it is coming. And you’ll be safer because of it.
