Apple yesterday released a public beta of OS X Yosemite. The big news is that it includes the Photos app which is meant to replace iPhoto and Aperture. It was a feature that was mentioned when Yosemite was announce, but was slated to be released to the public after the core OS was released last year.
Other items noted in the beta are:
- A redesigned single-page emoji picker that’s organized into categories, and it introduces new diversified emoji and emoji skin tone modifiers.
- Support for Google 2-step verification.
Not mentioned is if it fixes the WiFi issues that have plagued the OS since launch. I for one am not holding my breath, but Apple is free to surprise users with a fix for this issue that actually works.
If you’re part of the public beta program, you would have likely received an e-mail telling you how to acquire this beta. Or you can try to sign up to the public beta program here if you want to participate: https://appleseed.apple.com/sp/betaprogram/
As always, you should not install betas on a computer that you depend on and you should do a backup first.
