“I wouldn’t feel safe if my daughter or my wife were to get in (an) Uber cab with some of the stuff that has happened with the Uber drivers,” Karygiannis said. “There’s no insurance. There’s no public safety as far as police (background checks) are concerned.”
The motion asks the city’s Chief Administrative Officer to remove the app from 12,000 city-issued phones, though Karygiannis does not know how many of those phones have actually downloaded the app.
I’d love to know how many city employees have actually downloaded the app. It could be 1 or a thousand. Thus this could actually be something meaningful, or a meaningless based on what that number is. But one thing is clear. While there are members of the public who like Uber, the city of Toronto aren’t fans and this will simply end badly for Uber.
Toronto City Councilor Wants Uber App Banned From City Employee Phones
The City Of Toronto is really turning the screws up on Uber. Hot off the heels of having a number of their drivers arrested, comes this story in the Toronto Star that City Councilor Jim Karygiannis wants the Uber App banned from city supplied smartphones:
“I wouldn’t feel safe if my daughter or my wife were to get in (an) Uber cab with some of the stuff that has happened with the Uber drivers,” Karygiannis said. “There’s no insurance. There’s no public safety as far as police (background checks) are concerned.”
