Frequent readers will recall that I covered Bell’s announcement of their plans to bring Gigabit Fibe to the masses in Canada. Today, Bell has announced that if you’re in some parts of Ontario and Quebec, you can get it now. Specifically, if you live in the following cities in Ontario:
- Brampton
- Kingston
- Kitchener-Waterloo
- Milton
- Ottawa
- Peterborough
- Toronto
In Quebec, you can find Gigabit Fibe in these cities:
- Québec City
- Beloeil
- Blainville
- Chambly
- Châteauguay
- Gatineau
- Joliette
- La Prairie
- Laval
- Lévis
- Magog
- Repentigny
- Saint-Constant
- Saint-Eustache
- Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu
- Saint-Jérôme
- Saint-Luc
- Sherbrooke
- Salaberry-de-Valleyfield
- Sorel-Tracy
- Terrebonne
- Vaudreuil-Dorion
- Montréal
One thing to keep in mind is that with the exception of Quebec City, Gigabit Fibe’s availability is likely to be scattered in pockets of each city. You should visit Bell.ca/Fibe to see if you can get hooked up in your area. If you can, here’s what you’ll pay:
- 149.95 per month as a standalone Internet option
- You can to upgrade to Gigabit Fibe speeds for just $10 a month in a bundle
- You’ll need to pay a $49.95 “Activation Fee”
- A “one-time modem rental fee” of $99.95 also applies
In terms of speeds and data caps, expect to get “up to” 940 Mbps down and “up to” 100 Mbps upstream.
So, does this entice you to jump to Bell to get gigabit speeds?
