FBI Taps Israeli Firm To Unlock iPhone
You might recall that the FBI earlier this week backed off from forcing Apple to unlock the iPhone used by the San Bernadino shooter. Now we know who the FBI is is working with. Reuters is reporting that the FBI has begun working with Israeli mobile software developer Cellebrite to crack open the iPhone in question.
So, who is Cellebrite?
According to their website, Cellebrite offers “mobile forensics solutions” which “give access to and unlock the intelligence of mobile data sources to extend investigative capabilities, accelerate investigations, unify investigative teams and produce solid evidence”.
That sounds like the exact help the FBI needs. It will be interesting to see if they can actually get anything out of this iPhone. And if they do, you can bet Apple will want to know about it so that they can further secure iOS. We might find out on April 5th when Apple and the FBI are due back in court.
