Burglar Caught By Netatmo’s Welcome Camera

If you think that cameras like the Netatmo Welcome which I reviewed recently can’t help to keep you and your property safe, here’s a story that will change your mind.

Not too long ago, the police arrested a burglar that broke into Mr. D’s (name is withheld) home, a Welcome owner. Here’s the story:

After an object disappeared from his apartment, our user wanted to buy a security camera to know if someone was stealing from him. He wasn’t entirely convinced about Welcome at the beginning, as it did not seem to be a security camera, but rather a camera to know when your kids are back home. He found a comparison of cameras on an American website that featured Welcome. He bought Welcome due to the “no fees, no subscription” and as it is compatible with IFTTT – so he could connect it to other smart products without the need to buy everything from a single brand. Other features he looked for: immediate alerts for movement, cloud backup.

The day after he installed Welcome, while he was in a meeting, he received a notification “unknown face seen.” He checked the livestream immediately and saw a burglar in his home. He called the police and were able to catch the burglar in the stairway. Damien arrived at the same time, showed the video proof to the police. Moreover, he had a picture proof mailed to him via IFTTT which clearly showed the face of the burglar. The video proof lead to an arrest and a nine month prison sentence.

Clearly these cameras can make a difference. Thus you really shouldn’t dismiss them or what they are capable of. The person in this story is proof positive of that.
