San Bernardino Shooter’s iPhone Has Helped Investigation: Source

CNN is reporting via a source, which puts this well into the “take this for what it’s worth” category, that the data that the FBI got from the iPhone that belonging to the San Bernardino Shooter has helped the investigation:

FBI investigators now have concluded there was data on the phone they didn’t have previously, law enforcement officials said, declining to offer more specifics.

The data is still being analyzed and more leads are being followed, the officials said.

Given how much effort went into getting this data, including getting into a legal battle with Apple and hiring an unknown group of hackers to ultimately break into the phone, The FBI may want to speak to if it was all worth it or not. Seeing as this is an active investigation, that may not be possible at present. But at some point, they need to speak to this. Assuming that this report is accurate of course.
