Telus Study Reveals Canadians Crave Smarter Homes

A study commissioned by Telus regarding smart home adoption in Canada was released recently.

The study revealed that connected smart home devices are well on their way to becoming as prevalent as smartphones and tablets. There is also a significant gap between those who believe that smart home tech will benefit their lives vs. those who actually own a smart home device – but that’s about to quickly change as 63 per cent of people predict that they will own at least one smart home device in just two years.

Other key findings from the study include:

  • The most popular smart home devices are TVs and smart thermostats
  • 57 per centof people say the greatest benefit of living in a smarter home includes saving money and being greener, with 44 per cent of people saying the greatest benefit is increased security or safety
  • Canadians are willing to pay moreto live in a smart home and/or in neighbourhoods with faster internet speeds
