The pwnage of online services continues. Today it’s cloud based backup service Carbonite that is affected by a potential security issue. They’ve issued a warning to users that hackers are doing password based attacks on the service using info gained from the hacking of other online services. As a result they’re recommending that users change their passwords right now. Instructions to assist you with changing your password can be found here.
This is not surprising as many people reuse their passwords with many online services and hackers know that. Thus if you’re one of those people, the potential exists that if you’ve been pwned on one service, you could be potentially be pwned on others. Thus I would recommend that you try to diversify your passwords to minimize your risk. Of course you should do this AFTER you change your Carbonite password.
